  TROPICAL AMERICANS

Prologue

During the time I lived with my grandfather, after he had retired from a long distinguished medical career, in Panamá, I recorded his enthralling escapades and stimulating monologues and our dialogues.  Stories, by their nature are scripted towards entertainment; my grandfather’s adventurous experiences and intense recollections were crafted to share a unique life’s powerful wisdom.

His personality projected effectiveness, passion and integrity, his focus minimized living’s saddest regrets, If I Only Knew and I Should Have. For him, the demanding circumstances of emergency room realities and twisted social behavior had forced him to come to terms with the crudeness of living, the rawness of surviving and the abruptness of death.

His awareness assessments and mature sensibilities embodied ethics what-ought-to-be. The pains were left in as part of the essence of life, the essential perspectives on what-was, were not polished away. Age may quietly accepts what-is, but he was adamant that a mind should never go stale, at the moment of death the mind’s energy is all we have.

I once asked why his conversations always had an intense feel, like a last lecture on living?

Obituary obligations! Living amplifies life the more one does, the more there is, the more enriching the better. Man’s greatest wealth is health, clarity of thought and peace-of-mind. Being wise about life makes the most of attitudes, opportunities and challenges –embrace the luxuries of passion & pleasure.”

…Absolutes in living are passé; the only objective certainty is the probabilities of uncertainty. Civilized adult life is full of organizing, assessing and deciding relevance, which makes accurate referencing from that-which-is, and utilizing what-is-superior crucial…

The definitive meanings from my grandfather’s hard earned facts-of-experiences’ eclectic pragmatism and good fortune combined with his forward focus reasoning, and a spirituality of generous meaningfulness was an astute liberating clarity that optimize & enjoy the dynamics of contemporary living…

His evolution from a common man’s ignorance through open-ended journeys into realms of actualizing & realizations is a modern aventurero opus
